Gain Perspective

We all lose perspective sometimes. It is especially easy when you work in an environment where you consistently feel pressure to do more and be more. Often it’s a pivotal experience like a parent dying, the birth of a child, a job termination, the termination or death of a respected coworker or becoming aware of feelings of emptiness that bring the realization that change of focus is needed.

Isn’t this just how life is?

Many people have the experience of being stuck in, frustrated with or confused by a lack of meaning in their work and life, but you don’t have to. Even in the most extreme circumstances (21), this does not have to be the case. Working with your perspective and your patterns of meaning-making might be helpful when:

  • Work that once felt purposeful (e.g. “This job helps me support myself”) now lacks the same purpose
  • An important quality is missing in the way you used to experience work (e.g. feelings of satisfaction, confidence, being a part of something, purpose. Aliveness, enthusiasm)
  • You don’t care about stuff in your life (e.g. work, relationships, academic subjects, hobbies, serving your clients) like you used to
  • Exhaustion is the norm for you these days
  • You are pulled between competing priorities (e.g. work and your personal life), and you don’t know how to make it better
  • You work all the time and often don’t feel you accomplish enough
  • There are people who want more from you, and you don’t know how or can’t give it, even though a part of you wants to
  • You are lonely

While a lot of people have these experiences, you’re life can be more meaningful right now. Contact Dr. Regedanz to see if working together might help you with your unique situation.
